This is my entry for the Bring Your Vision to Life contest. To me this represents good and evil, one of my favorite concepts. I don't think one can exist without the other, or that one can ever actually be purely good or evil. The western dragon, which typically represents evil, is grasping her rather protectively, rather than roasting her as western dragons are said to do to the poor little villagers. But is she really good? Her lack of armor suggests she needs protecting, but is she not wielding a sword? Is it right to protect the good with violence? Is it wrong to do nothing when evil threatens good?
Together, the two are in harmony. She does not strike him with her sword, and he does not rake her with his claws. But if she pulled away the scene might descend into chaos and the world would be unbalanced again. Details: [link] ------ I FINISHED IT. FINALLY. I literally cackled with maniacal glee when I painted the last scale. The rest of it just clicked and popped all over the place and by 7 I was done. But it takes about 20 minutes to save this monster of a .psd... so 30 minutes later I'm posting it. Heehee! I worked on this just shy of a month. It never takes me that long to finish a painting but this one I think is my masterpiece. Yeah, I went a little Jack Torrance when I was painting this one. I don't think the dragon scales would have been so bad if the painting weren't so huge. I could have used the crisscross technique to draw the scales. But because it was so big, it just looked hokey when I did, so I ended up drawing them all individually... I'm happy with the end result but that was still a bad idea. There are some work in progress shots of this in my gallery, and at least 1 or 2 in my livejournal: [link] Enjoy! |

I love dragons, I like elves, and I've got a thing for kick-ass women... well done on all three counts!
As for the contrast- You already did well in outlining it yourself. I think my favorite part of the contrast though, is something you left out, though I'm not sure if it was purposeful or just not one you intended.
Green light to the left, green often associated with life of course; And the pale white light to the right, and white light is often associated with death. (IE: Don't go towards the light...)
Death is often looked upon as bad and life often seen as good by comparison, but is either one truly complete without the other? Is there a lack of fullness in the meaning of a life without end, or with an end before life can truly be lived?
In this way, it seems to me that you have once again outdone yourself with meaning and mind blowing visualization. Once again- Well done!

the colors work well and that sword she's holding looks very nice

Your sins are not redeemed
By swearing perjury.
Your sense of self-esteem
Has miles to go to sanctity.

Also I don't know if it is just my eyes seeing it or if it was a subliminal part of your artwork. I looked at the moon and could have sworn there was a hint of a dragon in the moon. Just seeing that even it it was through my own eyes, captured the whole picture right down to the elf woman.
